On September 8, 2015, Premier Paul Davis announced Russell Simms, Keyin College Burin Peninsula graduate, as the province’s recipient of the 2015 Council of the Federation Literacy Award.

After being out of school for more than three decades, Russell entered the Adult Basic Education (ABE) program at Keyin College in Fortune to get his high school diploma.  After graduating from the ABE program he went on to complete Keyin’s Carpentry program and is now working as a registered apprentice carpenter with Bennett’s Construction.  “I believe that you truly are never too old to learn.  And I learn something new every day.  I only wish I’d gone back to school sooner,” Simms said.

On behalf of all Keyin College students, instructors and administration, congratulations Russell on your tremendous accomplishments!
